Thanksgiving Day Busy for Central Union Mission
Two Meal Seatings and “Stuff the Truck” Event
****
Washington, DC—November 25, 2014—On our national day of gratitude and remembrance, Central Union Mission’s services expand to provide two holiday meals for homeless men and others in our community at 12:00 noon and 5:00 pm. Volunteers are poised to serve donated turkey with all the trimmings to an expected 350 people.
New this year, we are sponsoring a community service event called “Stuff the Truck.” We invite our friends and neighbors to bring donated food to the Mission on Thanksgiving to fill our truck with food for the winter. This is a good activity for school, office and church groups whose photos will be posted on the Mission’s Facebook page.
According to Mission Executive Director David Treadwell, “Thanksgiving is especially important because it embodies the hospitality and warmth that Central Union Mission strives to show our guests every day. We’ve been blessed with enough volunteers to help serve the meals, make brown bag lunches and decorate for Christmas, but since even more want to be involved, we created the “Stuff the Truck” event. Many helping hands are needed for
our community to survive the winter.”
“Stuff the Truck” will take place in the Mission’s parking lot at 65 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on November 27, 2014. Participants can rsvp for their families and groups and find a list of suggested donations at missiondc.org.
