Turkeys Needed

****

Washington, DC—November 17, 2014—Central Union Mission usually distributes 1000 Thanksgiving turkeys to hungry families every November, but this year, we’re running 340 turkeys short. “Turkey prices are higher this year,” explains David Treadwell, Central Union Mission’s executive director, “and we have more needy people coming to our doors than ever before.”

Food PLUS Center family
This family received a turkey last Thanksgiving, but we need help to provide enough for this year.

Two local churches who are the Mission’s largest turkey donors are overwhelmed with their own congregations’ needs and are not able to supply as many turkeys as in previous years. Central Union Mission purchased 100 turkeys from the Capital Area Food Bank but still needs more than 300 turkeys to meet its thousand-turkey goal.

Please inform your community that they can contribute turkeys to Central Union Mission by November 20 at its homeless shelter at 65 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20001, or at its food distribution facility Food PLUS Center at 3182 B Bladensburg Road, NE, Washington, DC 20018. Families receiving turkeys are available for interviews and photos.
