St. Louis, MO (June 5, 2014)David Treadwell, executive director of Washington, DC’s Central Union Mission, received the annual Russ Reid Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM) at its 101st conference in St. Louis, MO, on Tuesday. The award was presented in honor of his service and dedication to helping the hungry, hurting and homeless people in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.

Russ Reid Chair Tom Harrison said of David Treadwell (left), “When you think of the best of Rescue Missions, this is a person you think of.”

“Thanks to our faithful donors, Central Union Missions is thriving at our new location at 65 Massachusetts Ave., NW,” commented Treadwell. “Since our ministry is run entirely through private funding, I’m especially grateful that this award gives us a chance to showcase our effectiveness in helping people out of homelessness.”

Treadwell has served Central Union Mission as executive director since 1998. The 130-year-old Mission, Washington’s oldest social service agency, continues to provide shelter, training, food, furniture, clothing and the message of Christ’s love to the disadvantaged in our city, as it has throughout its long history.

David Treadwell also served as AGRM’s Mid-East District president and served on its national board for nine years, the last two as board chair. AGRM provides information, training, resources, and public relations for urban ministry leaders who help needy neighbors in Jesus’ name.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is named for the founder of Pasadena, CA, marketing firm Russ Reid. This award, which consists of a trophy and a donation, is given to an individual who has served at least 15 years in Rescue Mission leadership positions, has demonstrated strong Christian character and been involved in AGRM mentoring and leadership. Another Lifetime Award winner this year is Bill Thompson from Union Gospel Mission in Dallas, TX.
